Notes from an Entrepreneur in the UX Field - Conceiving, Designing, and Developing the Cullect Product

Parking Tips: Parking is available in the lot on the east side of the building on a first-come, first-served basis. (The main entrance is on Washington Avenue.) There are approximately 33 parking spaces in this lot, depending on snow conditions. The lot at the back of the building is mainly reserved for building use. There are meters on the streets surrounding Open Book. The meters can be set for extended times. The meters are all $1 / hour except for the meters on 3rd, which are 25 cents / hour. The nearest ramp is the Guthrie / municipal ramp located at 2nd and 10th - about one block from Open Book.
Refreshments: A light meal and sodas will be provided. Beer and wine will be available at the cash bar.
After Hours: We often go directly after the meeting to one of the nearby bars. All are welcome.
Program Details
Join Garrick Van Buren (President of Working Pathways, Inc. and creator of Cullect.com) and UPA MN for a discussion on developing products from a UX perspective, using Cullect as a case study. The discussion will cover:
- Developing a product you will use and the way you will use it.
- Designing the API as the primary user interface.
- A tour of some of the innovative UI concepts behind Cullect.
- An activity in which you will be able to play the role of an information curator.
Meet Garrick Van Buren
Garrick Van Buren is President of Working Pathways, Inc. a customer experience strategy company. He's assisted companies like Sun Microsystems, Target, Orbitz.com, and countless start-ups in developing and maintaining a customer-centric web presence. Garrick co-founded and contributes to the MNteractive.com and PodcastMN.com communities, and continues to publish one of the first podcasts - The First Crack Podcast. He also occasionally writes for Minnov8.com. His latest project is Cullect.
