Meeting Topic: "Usability Career Counseling"

Our guest speaker was Dr. Susan Weinschenk of Weinschenk Consulting on the topic of "Usability Career Counseling." It was a great look at where usability has been, the progress our professionhas made and where we all are or need to be heading. You can get a copy of notes I took from Susan's talk at the UPA MN website.

I want to thank St. Paul Companies for hosting our October meeting. I think a combination of a great facility/location and a great speaker help us to have agreat turn out for this months meeting and a bunch of new faces. We gained 8 new members during our October meeting- hurrah!

Business:

UPA Board election nominations begin in October. All active members will be asked to vote at the November meeting. If you can not make the November meeting, you can vote by email. Send your vote to me, <mailto:deedee.demulling@eds.com>deedee.demulling@eds.com.

During our business meeting, I explained our election process and distributed handouts that described the role of each office.Chapter council roles will be published to web, but if you would like to receive a copy via email, just let me know.

Then, I called for nominations. I began by nominated Debbie McConnell for President and Lyle Kantrovich for Program Director. Both nominations were seconded and accepted by the candidates. No other nominations were made during the business meeting so DeeDee asked that interested parties forward nominations to her anytime between Oct. 10 and our Nov. elections.

After the meeting, individuals approached various board members and offered their services, these nominations were accepted and seconded.

Emily Jipson offered to help with the web site or serve on some future committee. She also offered to check with her employer, EVANTAGE, regarding hosting a meeting sometime in 2003. Charles Patton, of the Mayo Clinic, offered to host a meeting in 2003, including a tour of their wonderful labs. Peg Sanchez expressed an interested in being a member of the board during an earlier meeting. At this point, we do not have any nominations for Secretary or Vice President.

Our meeting next month is going to be a roundtable and I look forward tohaving an open discussion with my UPA family members, as well as voting in a new council. Nominate today and Vote in November!
